Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer

The City of Fayette is accepting applications for a full-time Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer.

The Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for performing technical inspections to ensure that residential, commercial, and industrial construction complies with applicable codes, zoning, ordinances, and regulations. This position ensures the health, safety, and welfare of the public by enforcing universal building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes and standards. Code Enforcement duties for this position will include the enforcement of municipal, nuisance, and property maintenance codes. Technical and clerical duties relating to permit inquiries, processing, and reporting at City Council meetings. Work will be conducted in the office and the field. This position reports directly to the Fayette City Administrator.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct Field inspections of buildings under construction, renovation, or repair for compliance with building codes and city ordinances.
  • Inspection of structural, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical installations to ensure adherence to approved plans and relevant codes.
  • Investigate complaints and issues related to zoning, code enforcement, and building safety.
  • Issue correction notices, stop-work orders, or citations when code violations are identified.
  • Review and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and follow-up actions.
  • Provide information and guidance to contractors, developers, and the general public regarding code requirements.
  • Attend meetings and provide testimony or reports as needed.
  • Assist in emergency response related to unsafe structures or disaster recovery.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or technical training in construction technology, architecture, engineering, or a related field preferred.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building inspection, construction, or a related field.

ICC (International Code Council) certification as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector (ICC B1/ICCB2) or must be able to be obtained within a year of employment.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Salary

$45,000 – $50,000 DOE/per year with a great benefit package

Municipal Pool Manager

The City of Fayette, Missouri, is accepting applications for the position of Municipal Pool Manager in its Department of Streets & Parks.  This position requires a high school diploma or G. E. D.  Specialized training in water purification and experience in water safety programs will be required and provided when employment begins.  Duties include maintenance of water purity, recreational program management, supervision of seasonal personnel, minor equipment repair, overall pool safety, and management.  This is a seasonal position from May 2025 through August 2025.

Municipal Pool Lifeguards

The City of Fayette, Missouri, is accepting applications for the position of Municipal Pool Lifeguards in its Department of Streets & Parks.  These positions require certification from the American Red Cross and will be provided when employment begins.  Duties include lifeguard activities and pool safety.  Positions are seasonal from May 2025 through August 2025.

Fayette Police Department

The Fayette Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency dedicated to providing and maintaining a safe and secure community for its citizens, businesses, and visitors. Fayette is a small college town with approximately 2700 residents. The department has staffing of 8 full-time officers with 7-10 reserve officers. Officers have 4-day work weeks and 10-hour shifts with 24/7 coverage.

We are currently seeking applications for the position of Police Officer. Pay starts at $20.00 an hour, based on experience. Police Academy scholarships may be available.

All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation. All equipment and uniforms are provided.
