City of Fayette, Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer
The City of Fayette is accepting applications for a part-time Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer.
The Building Inspector and Code Enforcement Officer is responsible for performing technical inspections to ensure that residential, commercial and industrial construction complies with applicable codes, zoning, ordinances and regulations. This position ensures the health, safety and welfare of the public by enforcing universal building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical codes and standards. Code Enforcement duties for this position will include the enforcement of municipal, nuisance and property maintenance codes. Technical and clerical duties relating to permit inquiries, processing and reporting at City Council meetings. Work will be conducted in the office and in the field. This position reports directly to the Fayette City Administrator.
Essential Duties
- Conduct Field inspections of building under construction, renovation or repair for compliance with building codes and city ordinances.
- Inspection of structural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical installations to ensure adherence to approved plans and relevant codes.
- Investigate complaints and issues related to zoning, code enforcement and building safety.
- Issue correction notices, stop-work orders or citations when code violations are identified.
- Review and interpret blueprints, specifications and construction documents.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations and follow-up actions.
- Provide Information and guidance to contractors, developers and the general public regarding code requirements.
- Attend meetings and provide testimony or reports as needed.
- Assist in emergency response related to unsafe structures or disaster recovery.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required; associate’s degree or technical training in construction technology, architecture, engineering or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) yrs experience in building inspection, construction or related field.
- ICC (International Code Council) certification as a Residential or Commercial Building Inspector (ICC B1/ICCB2) or must be able to obtained within a year of employment.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

The Police Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining public safety and enforcing laws within the community. Duties
- Patrol assigned areas to deter and detect criminal activity.

- Enforce traffic laws and regulations; conduct traffic stops as necessary.

- Provide first aid and CPR as needed during emergencies.
- Utilize surveillance techniques to monitor suspicious activities.
- Handle animals in distress or involved in incidents as required.
- Collaborate with community members to promote safety initiatives and crime prevention strategies.
- Stay informed about local laws, immigration law, loss prevention tactics, and security protocols.
- 12-hour shifts with rotating weekends
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in criminal justice or related fields is preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age
- Valid Driver’s License
- US Citizenship
- Post Class A Licensed or Enrolled in Academy Class
- Prior experience in law enforcement or military service is advantageous.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
- Proficient in report writing and documentation practices.
- Excellent driving skills; valid driver’s license required.
- Knowledge of conflict management techniques and animal handling practices is beneficial.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
- Willingness to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. This position requires a proactive approach to community engagement while upholding the law with integrity and professionalism.
